Writing About Food & Culture

The term "Querencia" rests at the heart of the story of place and belonging.  Querencia, derived from the Spanish word "querer" to love, to desire, to want, roughly translates in English to the love of place, a place to stand, a circle of belonging. 

Lobo Garden Field Day Common Table PotLuck Picnic Friday, October 5, 2018 1:00-1:45 p.m.       Join us at the Pollinator Garden for an informal and intimate potluck lunch with Our ENGL 320 Writing About Food & Culture Class.   Paper Plates & Utensils are in Kells Lobo Garden Tool Box (on the back wall). Bring a loaf of bread, a wedge of cheese, a plate of sliced fruit, a heap of carrots, a bowl of yogurt, a cluster of grapes, a scoop of raw nuts, etc. to share over a common tabl e. 

 

Unit 2: Cultivation of Food     During the past two weeks our class has been studying and discussing New Mexico's acequia culture, reading Stanley Crawford's  Mayordomo and watching the film, Milagro Beanfield Wars .  Some of these photos were taken of Northern New Mexico acequia's in the Chama Valley near the Brazos River.     

Lobo Garden Field Day Groups     We formed four Lobo Garden Field Day Groups (the Pluots, Herbologist, Cultivators, and Pollinators).  Each group has stewardship responsibilities for watering and caring for their own planter boxes, flower pots, and garden beds. Because New Mexico has a long growing season with sunny days and monsoon rains throughout the autumn, we are hoping to see new sprouts from our garden areas through November.
